World Mental Health Day is observed each year on 10 October.

Good mental health is possible for everyone, and this day gives us a chance to open up conversations about it and reflect on how we can work together to improve mental wellbeing for all.

The theme chosen by the World Federation for Mental Health this year focuses on access to services – supporting mental health during crises and emergencies. It emphasises the need for people to be able to safeguard their mental wellbeing no matter the circumstances, because everyone has the right to good mental health.

What’s happening:

This year, there are many different ways for you to take part:

Friday 10th October

Services Open Day at The Junction

Time: 12:00 – 14:30 BST

Location: The Junction, Swindon Town Hall, Regent Circus, Swindon, SN1 1QG

This year’s World Mental Health Day theme – mental health in catastrophes and emergencies – feels particularly relevant, as so many lives are touched by crises, whether through natural disasters, pandemics, or the lasting effects of other traumatic events. To mark the occasion, we are hosting a Services Open Day, offering the chance to explore the range of support available. The event will shine a spotlight on our Junction service as well as Community and Inclusion services. By strengthening networks of support – especially within local communities like Swindon – we can help ensure that people have access to the right help at the right time.

Access to Services – A Trauma Informed Approach

Time: 10:30 – 12:00 BST

Location: Swindon Central Library, Regent Circus, Swindon, SN1 1QG

World Mental Health Day is a time to pause, connect, and raise awareness about mental wellbeing. This year’s theme, access to services: mental health in catastrophes and emergencies, resonates strongly with the experiences of professionals who work under extreme and demanding conditions.

We recognise that repeated exposure to trauma, combined with the pressure of providing vital support, can take a serious toll on mental health. To address this, we are hosting a one-hour talk designed to provide insight and practical strategies, covering:

  • Working in emergency and crisis situations
  • Taking a trauma-informed approach
  • Mental health in the workplace
  • Understanding your nervous system
  • Self-care practices
  • Q&A session

This event is an opportunity to reflect, learn, and build resilience – because caring for others starts with caring for ourselves.

Why fundraise for S&G Mind?

At Swindon and Gloucestershire Mind, we’re here to ensure that anyone in our community facing a mental health challenge is met with support and respect. The money you raise goes directly where it’s needed most – whether that’s providing crucial services, offering guidance through our Point of Entry Line, or sharing accessible online resources.
