The Junction launched in June 2019 and aims to provide a safe, therapeutic, supportive environment for individuals who are experiencing or recovering from a mental health crisis. The project is based upon the national calming café models and offers practical support, skilled de-escalation alongside skilled mental health nursing intervention. This service is working in partnership with Avon and Wiltshire Mental Health Partnership NHS Trust and Swindon Clinical Commissioning Group.
The service aims to:
- Reduce distress to the individual
- Improve their recovery from a mental health crisis
- Reduce inappropriate mental health presentations to A&E
- Reduce inappropriate admissions to acute mental health hospital beds
- Reduce social isolation by linking with other services
The project is open 365 days a year and has a team of wellbeing advisors alongside registered mental health nurses. The project is in partnership with Swindon Intensive Team and we have recently widened the referral pathway to enable Swindon Recovery Team to refer into the service. If you would like more information on the junction please email the team: Junction@sgmind.org.uk
